Art journaling (sometimes called visual journaling) is a powerful resilience-building practice that helps us connect with our own vitality, process our life experiences, move through stuckness and overwhelm, and experience greater self-acceptance and self-compassion. Junk Journaling is a specific form of art journaling where we use recycled materials from our everyday lives to create the visual medicine we need to see.

In this 2-hour Zoom workshop, we will use a grocery bag, a cereal box (or other thick cardboard), and an empty toilet paper roll, to create a junk journal.

Why sign up?

A journal practice is a great way to invest in yourself and your well-being. Whether you are just starting a journaling practice, or a longtime visual or written journal-keeper, it can be fun to create a journal out of materials you might otherwise throw in your recycling bin! Besides, it’s really fun to create art together in community!

Who is this for?

This workshop is open to anyone who wants to create a cover for a journal using mixed-media art techniques. Newcomers and experienced artists are all welcome.

What supplies are needed?

In this workshop, we will use these supplies: gesso, glue, string (or yarn or embroidery thread), a thick needle or pokey thing (for hole-making in paper), and a pair of scissors. You can get these supplies here (not an affiliate link).

You will also need a paper grocery bag, a cereal box (or similar thin cardboard material), and an empty toilet paper roll :)
